Sunseeker vs Azimut in Miami: Which Charter Fits Your Group?

Most of what is written about Sunseeker versus Azimut is written for people buying a yacht. Hull construction, resale, cost of ownership, engine hours. None of that helps if what you are actually doing is picking a boat for one day on Biscayne Bay with twelve friends.

This guide is the charter version. What actually changes on the day

Both builders make excellent boats. At charter level, on a four to eight hour day, the differences that you will actually notice come down to four things.

Deck layout and shade. This is the big one in Miami. A full flybridge gives you a sun deck up top and a shaded aft deck below, and in July that second part matters more than anything on the spec sheet. Sport profiles trade some of that for a lower, sleeker look and a big open sundeck.

The swim platform. Every anchor stop happens here. A broad, low platform makes getting thirteen people in and out of the water at the sandbar easy. A high transom makes it a scramble.

Interior versus exterior. Some hulls put the space into staterooms and bathrooms, others into deck. For a day charter, deck wins. For an overnight or a Bahamas run, the interior count starts to matter a lot.

What comes with the boat. Toys are not standard across the fleet. Two yachts of the same length and the same badge can come with completely different packages, and that difference is usually bigger than anything brand-level.

What is actually in the Miami fleet

That imbalance is the single most practical fact in this comparison. If you want a Sunseeker you are choosing from six boats, and on a peak Saturday in March some of those will already be gone. If you want an Azimut, there is almost always something available in your size. On a tight date, that is often what decides it.

Head to head at the same length

Brand against brand is a meaningless comparison. Boat against boat at the same length is a useful one. Here are three matched pairs from the fleet.

Read that last row twice if your group is thirteen people. The 96 Sunseeker is a beautiful boat with a netted floating pool off the stern, and it is certified for twelve cruising guests. No broker can stretch that at the dock, so a group of thirteen is choosing the Azimut whether they meant to or not.

What a Sunseeker day feels like

The Sunseekers in our fleet share a character: a proper full-size flybridge, clean British lines, and an easy transom. The day organizes itself around the flybridge. Most of the group ends up upstairs for the run out past Star Island and Fisher Island, then drifts down to the shaded aft deck once the sun is overhead.

At the top of the range the 96 Sunseeker adds the feature guests remember: a netted floating pool that drops off the stern, so the whole group can get in the water safely at Haulover or Nixon Sandbar without anyone drifting. Two Sunchill pads and a dinghy come with it.

Pick a Sunseeker when the group wants a classic luxury yacht day with real shade, the flybridge is going to be the social center, and twelve or thirteen guests fits comfortably.

What an Azimut day feels like

Azimut is where the fleet has range. At the sport end, the 80 Azimut S8 is low, quick and built to be looked at, with an open sundeck and a jet ski included in the charter. At the other end, the 88 Azimut 2023 is one of the newest hulls we run, with five staterooms, six bathrooms and contemporary interiors that photograph well.

That 88 is also the clearest example of why the badge is the wrong unit of comparison. It carries a jet ski, a large floating mat, two paddle boards, snorkeling gear and a Seabob. Against the 88 Sunseeker, same length, same guest count, you are really choosing between a bigger interior with a deeper toy package and a more classic flybridge layout.

Group size is the real decider

Before style, before brand, before anything: private charters are capped at thirteen guests, and some vessels are certified for twelve. That is a certification limit on the boat, enforced federally, and it is not negotiable at the dock.

So the sequence that actually works is simple. Confirm the real headcount, including the friend who might show up. That number removes a chunk of the fleet immediately. Then pick the day you want, and only then look at which hulls are free on your date. Brand is usually the last filter, not the first.

A group of six to eight has the run of both builders and can choose on style alone. A group of thirteen on a peak Saturday will have a short list, and it will probably be Azimut-heavy simply because there are twenty-two of them. Water toys and the swim platform

The anchor stop is the part of the day everyone remembers, and it is decided by the swim platform and what is already on board rather than by the builder.

Some boats come loaded. The 88 Azimut 2023 includes a jet ski, a floating mat, two paddle boards, snorkeling gear and a Seabob. The 105 Azimut SV carries two jet skis, three Seabobs and a floating lounge. The 80 Azimut S8 includes a jet ski. On the Sunseeker side, the 96 has the netted floating pool, and the 76 and 88 carry a floating carpet off the stern.

Multi-day and the Bahamas run

Everything above assumes a day charter. The moment you start talking about an overnight or a crossing to Bimini, the comparison flips, because now the interior count is the thing that matters.

Staterooms and bathrooms stop being a spec-sheet detail and start being where people sleep.
